Term One

E.O.T.C.
Our school has had an extremely active term focused on making connections, grasping new opportunities and celebrating student successes. From weeks three to eight each class travelled away overnight for their term one ‘building connections’ theme camp. The year seven classes went to Waipatiki beach overnight and the year eight students went to Camp Wakarara for three days. These camps were about making connections with other students and staff as this is a vital part of our school culture and is so much more than just a curriculum programme for our school.Click here to view camp photos.
School BBQ:
In week two we invited all our parent community in for a school BBQ. This was a chance to meet the teacher and visit their child’s classroom. This opportunity was widely received by our parents with well over five hundred people in attendance.
Parent teacher conferences:
These were held at the end of term one and are constructed within the framework of the new national standards. All students are conferenced by their teachers and formulate an six month learning pathway. This learning pathway must consist of three learning goals. One each in numeracy, literacy and one other area. Each students learning goals, their results from our term one school testing and a snapshot of each students involvement in the life of our school are then shared at these three way conferences with parents, staff and students. This year our attendance rate at parent conferences was well over 85%. It is fantastic to see so many of our parents/caregivers attending and supporting our students.
Principal’s conferences:
In term two all students are timetabled to share their learning goals, school involvement profiles and some of their selected school work with the Principal. Each student receives an individual conference with the Principal to share their learning focus, school successes and goals. This opportunity is provided as part of our focus on ‘making connections’ with our students and to impress upon each student how much we value their learning and participation at our school. Students are supported by their teachers in advance of their conferences and almost 20% of our students are opting to either come early to school from 8.00am or stay late until 4.00pm to have these conferences with the Principal.
Academy programmes:
Our four Academies used most of term one to trial students who had applied. In 2010, 85% of our school students, over three hundred and fifty, trialled for our academies. The successful students, one hundred and seventy of them, were all recognised at our annual capping ceremony with over five hundred parents and whanau there to celebrate their success with them.Click here to view a video of the event
