Eastern Netball Region Tournament
On Tuesday, 10th August, Hastings Intermediate entered a Year 7 and Year 8 netball team into the inaugural Eastern Netball Region “Intermediate Day” tournament that was held at the Hastings Netball Centre.
Teams from Wairoa, Flaxmere, Hastings, Twyford, Napier, Taradale, Te Pohue, Waipukurau, Poukawa and Dannevirke competed in a Round Robin tournament made up of three sections;
Year 7 teams, Year 8 teams, and Year 7/8 mixed teams
The Hastings Intermediate Year 7 team began well with a convincing win of 19-2 against Havelock North Intermediate. Their second game was more of an even match with Tamatea intermediate, but Hastings sneaked in to win 10-8. They continued to play skilfully for their next three games to win 22-4 against Hastings Christian School, 25-0 against Wairoa College, and 24-1 against Taradale Intermediate.
The Hastings Intermediate Year 8 team also started with a convincing win of 19-10 against Peterhead School. They also continued to play skilfully for their next three games to win 27-4 against the Tamatea Intermediate invitational team, 18-13 against Wairoa College, and 14-11 against Tamatea Intermediate Ivory.
Their last game against Havelock North Intermediate was one that attracted the crowd. Both teams were unbeaten and the winning team of the tournament was hanging on this final match. Havelock Intermediate began strongly and was ahead by 3 goals at the half time score of 5-2. However, after the team talk during half time, Hastings Intermediate showed great courage and determination to even the score, and add one, to win 7-6! The coach and team were delighted with the result.
