Hastings Intermediate School - "The Get Involved School"

In Soft Materials technology all Year 8 students will learn basic hand sewing skills by making an outcome from the oldest fabric known to man - felt. They will do this by: - researching felt as a material, developing hand sewing skills as a means for sewing on a button, sewing on a patch or stitching up a hem.

Year 7 students will be given the opportunity to develop a technology outcome to meet a specific need using the sewing machines. Students will learn and develop new skills and become familiar with all aspects of Technological Practice whilst developing their outcome. The initial brief for students is to develop their own personalised ‘Back Sack’ – a hands free bag designed to meet a need according to their interests.
