Students receiveĀ  a weekly 45 minute music lesson with a specialist teacher for two terms of the year. The aim is that all students will be able to read and compose simple melodies using western notation by the time they leave H.I.S. Students use tuned and unturned percussion, ukuleles and keyboards to practise writing and recognising rhythms and pitched notes. Further practical and theory classes are taught through the Arts Academy for those identified as in need of extension. Itinerant teachers offer lessons in drums, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, keyboard, violin and brass; all students will receive information about this in week 1 of term 1.
