Hastings Intermediate has a history of basketball success, having achieved national titles at the Intermediate Schools Basketball championships since 2008. Carrying on with their tradition of Basketball success, Hastings Intermediate won the Heretaunga Year 7 and 8 basketball league championship at the Hastings Sports Arena last week. The tournament runs weekly throughout most of winter and the finals for the top teams gave Hastings a win over Havelock Intermediate and the overall season title. Special thanks to team coaches Matt Wilson and Duan Clinton from H.B.H.S. and Debbie Kiwi-Clinton from H.I.S. who took the team throughout the season.

The mid-week break in the weather on Wednesday provided a perfect day for the Super 6 netball competition between the three Napier Intermediates and the three Hastings Intermediates.
Hastings Intermediate hosted the competition at the Hastings Netball Centre in Sylvan Rd. We were well supported by Hastings Centre umpires, Year 10 umpires from Hastings Girls High School, and umpires and scorers from Karamu High School.
The six schools played each other in two round-robin competitions with their A and B netball teams. Some of the games were extremely close and both Hastings teams played very competitively, showing great commitment and skill level.
Hastings Intermediate A team won four games and drew one. The B team won 3 games and lost 2. However, the combined point total was enough for Hastings Intermediate to win the Super 6 shield!
Fair Play points were awarded by the umpires to the teams for demonstrating respect for the umpires and opposition, and appropriate conduct on court. At the end of the competition Hastings Intermediate were ahead in points so were also awarded the Fair Play shield.
