2010 Powhiri

New students and staff were formally welcomed to Hastings Intermediate with a Powhiri on the first day of the school year. The Powhiri was a fantastic community event with many parents attending. The year 8 students did a magnificent job and has set a very high standard for 2010.

The end of a very successful year was celebrated at our 2009 prizegiving. The achievements and successes of our students were acknowledged and parents were entertained with performances from our choir and kapa haka groups.

Year 8 Graduation Ball

To celebrate a successful two years at Hastings Intermediate the Year 8’s attended a graduation ball. Entertainment was provided by the amazing dancers from “Born to Move” and Mr Fulwood led the students through their repertoire of social dances.

Year Seven Social

The year sevens had a great end to their social dance programme. Mr John Fulwood has been teaching a variety of dances to the students this term and their combined effort was evident on the night. Market Day

During term 4 students have been learning about what is required to run a business enterprise. In groups, students have selected a venture they would like to run and are now busy producing and marketing their product.

On the 3rd of December we will be holding a market day from 1pm to 2.15pm. Students will set up stalls to showcase their ventures and sell their product. Parents and caregivers are invited to come along and enjoy our market day with us.

Kapa Haka Festival

The Kapa Haka group from Central School visited and performed a number of items for the whole school. In response the H.I.S. Kapa Haka presented their items that included an attention grabbing entrance and the new Pacifica group.Click here to view a video of the Pacifica group

Athletics

The school’s athletics day was held on Wednesday 11th of November. It was a fantastic day with a lot of outstanding performances. The overall house winner was Totara house.

A number of students went on to represent the school at the inter-intermediate athletics competition. We had a number of successes including the following

Dog Handlers

The whole school was treated to a display by five police dogs and their handlers. Obedience, jumping through obstacles and catching offenders were some of the skills that were on show. Click here to see more photos

Prefects

Seven year Eight students have been selected as prefects as part of our leadership programme. They are Jacynda Greenwood, Sariah Caccioppoli, Savannah Bailey, Brent Kyle, Kevan Rassell, Autumn Parata and Chrissy Glassey.

The Twelfth Night

This year’s school production was an adaption of William Shakespeare’s “The Twelfth Night.” Louise Ward and the Arts Academy staff worked tirelessly to bring together this unique performance. The production involved over one hundred students. Students were involved in every aspect of the production behind the scenes as well as on stage. The performances were a great success and the students were justly proud of their accomplishments.
