Arts Academy
Auditions for the Arts Academy 2010 are well underway with over 200 students preparing to excel in singing, drama, visual art, te reo, musicianship, music theory and dance. Groups will be finalised by week 5 and rehearsals underway for our Academy Capping Ceremony on the evening of 31st March. The criterion for acceptance into these groups has been very specific to ensure a high level of talent and commitment; students in these groups are working at extension level. Highlights of the year will be JRock, The Kids Sing, community performances, song writing competitions to name but a few. The ultimate in excitement for the whole Academy will be this year’s Shakespearian Term 3 production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ following on from the huge success of our trailblazing performance of ‘Twelfth Night’ last year. Student actors learn the full Shakespearian text with understanding, delivering quality performances updated by the inclusion of all Arts Academy groups performing Elizabethan drama with a very modern twist. Arts Department Opportunities
As well as the Arts Academy, the Arts Department acknowledges the right of every student to be involved in something they love to do, irrespective of their level of expertise! Students are invited to sign up for:
whole school choir, kapahaka, band, poi, pasifika, visual art, cheerleading and hip hop clubs.
Arts clubs run on Tuesdays and Thursdays and lunchtime sport and practices will run on the remaining days. No one should be saying ‘I’m bored’ at lunchtimes!
