Welcome to Hastings Intermediate School.

We are a multicultural Intermediate school of five hundred students situated in central Hastings, Hawkes Bay.

At Hastings Intermediate School we actively promote making positive connections with our students as one of our core values. We are also a Virtues based school that teaches students the value of: Courtesy, Courage, Commitment and Cooperation. These two educational priorities are not just curriculum themes for our school. They are very much a part of who we are, what we value and what makes our school unique and successful.

In recent years our school has made great strides forward in meeting the needs of our local community. Our school roll has increased by over 100% since 2008 and we have needed to establish an enrolment scheme to manage this growth successfully. Our community continue to support our new initiatives and programmes with our 2010 community survey completed by over 85% of all our parents. With over 95% of these respondents strongly supporting the school direction and focus. The top five reason why parents have selected our school for their children were identified in this latest survey as:

1. The high expectations for learning and behaviour within the school.
2. The Academy programme on offer to students.
3. The school leadership and direction.
4. The virtues programme taught in school.
5. The excellent range of opportunities and programmes on offer to students.

Part of our school logo is the ‘Get Involved’ School. We have over fifty different clubs and activities for students to participate in throughout the year.  Over 80% of our students actively participate in one or more of these programmes. Another focus for our students is our Academy programme. We offer academies in: Arts, Sports, Hospitality, Science and Technology and in Academic studies. Almost 60% of all students are successful in gaining entry to either one or more Academies and enjoy the opportunities that specialist teachers offer for extension and learning in these areas.

We are a school that strives to lead the way in offering quality learning programmes that promote student engagement and positivity. As the Principal I am privileged to say our best advertisements are our students, their successes and their performances.
