Welcome to Hastings Intermediate School.

We are a multicultural Intermediate school of more than four hundred students situated in central Hastings, Hawkes Bay.

At Hastings Intermediate School we actively promote making positive connections with our students as one of our core values. We are also a Virtues based school that teaches students the value of: Courtesy, Courage, Commitment and Cooperation. These two educational priorities are not just curriculum themes for our school. They are very much a part of who we are, what we value and what makes our school unique and successful.

In recent times our school has made great leaps forward in many areas. Our school roll has increased by over 75% since 2008, with the staff and Board working well as a team to keep pace with this growth. Together we have utilised our financial and personnel resources to further some substantial developments in school buildings, ICT tools, curriculum programmes and student opportunities. At the end of 2009 our community survey showed a 97% approval rating for our new programmes and Academies and a 99% approval rating of our overall school performance! 

Part of our school moto is ‘the get involved school’ and some of our popular programmes on offer include Academies in: Sports, Arts, Academia and Hospitality.  With other specialist teachers offering: Robotics, Japanese, Te Reo, Graphics and design, Horticulture, Science and cheerleading to name a few opportunities. 

We are a school that strives to lead the way in offering quality learning programmes that promote student engagement and positivity. As the Principal I am privileged to say our best advertisements are our students, their successes and their performances.
